An interesting one this evening on 6150 which did not announce an ID but just had the following, in several languages:  ‘This is Europe 24 Information and Entertainment for whole of Europe’. This was followed by music then the cycle starts again. It sounds like a test transmission, but whether pirate or commercial I know not. If anyone has any info please comment as I would like to know who it is.

I put together a SO-239 to 3.5mm jack conversion gadget tonight so that I can plug my long wire into the Tecsun PL-600. Great on the higher bands but with the Tecsun’s imaging problems not too much good on the tropical bands. It’s a shame as the Tecsun’s sensitivity is as good as the FRG-7, and has the benefit of a narrow filter and attenuator. And of course digital readout. But the ghosts and images it produces doesn’t make it a serious contender to the FRG. But then it’s a £60 portable compared to a comms receiver so I shouldn’t be surprised. I would have thought though that the double conversion would reduce the images better than it does.

I will include pics of the conversion gadget in a future post.
